The short version
GloBuy translates pages entirely on your device using Chrome's built-in AI. The text you read or type never leaves your browser. Only three-letter currency codes (like USD) are ever sent out — to fetch exchange rates. No accounts, no tracking, no ads.
Translation runs entirely on-device using Chrome's built-in Translator and LanguageDetector APIs (Chrome's on-device AI, introduced in Chrome 138). The text of the pages you visit — product names, descriptions, search queries you type — is translated locally inside your browser and is never sent to us or to any third party.
To show converted prices, GloBuy needs the current exchange rate between two currencies. It sends only a pair of three-letter currency codes (for example KRW and USD) to publicly available, keyless exchange-rate APIs:
frankfurter.dev / frankfurter.appopen.er-api.com (fallback for currencies Frankfurter omits)No prices, amounts, page content, URLs, or identifiers are included in these requests — just the currency codes. Rates are cached locally for 12 hours to minimize even these requests. They are fetched from the extension's background service worker, not from the pages you visit.
Your preferences — target language, target currency, per-site on/off toggle, and glossary and size conversion toggles — are saved with chrome.storage.sync. This is stored in your own browser profile and, if you have Chrome Sync enabled, synced across your own devices by Google. It is never sent to the developer.
A future release will add an optional Premium translation tier for higher-quality translations. It is not present in this version: the extension ships on-device only, there is no Premium toggle, and no page text leaves your device.
When it ships, Premium will be off by default and will only activate after you explicitly turn it on. With Premium on, selected page text would be sent to a translation proxy, forwarded to a third-party LLM provider to produce higher-quality results. Each request would include the text, source/target language, and an anonymous install token (a random ID generated in your browser) used only to meter the free monthly quota — not tied to your identity. URLs you visit, browsing history, and identifiers beyond that token would never be sent. Until that release ships and you opt in, none of this applies.
GloBuy requests the following Chrome permissions:
The only third-party network requests GloBuy makes are to the exchange-rate APIs listed above. These APIs are public, keyless, and receive only the currency codes described. GloBuy has no affiliation with Frankfurter or Open Exchange Rates.
GloBuy does not knowingly collect information from children under 13. The extension collects no personal data from any user regardless of age.
